Born and raised in Paris, France, Roger Bellon began his music career at the age of eight. He recieved his first commission from the Ecole Normal de Musique at the age of twenty,and the resulting piece was published by the legendary Max Eshig. Bellon composed the music for numerous movies, documentaries and plays for French television, including "LaMarseillaise" and "Les Heroiques". As a recording artist for RCA Records, Paris, he released two highly acclaimed albums: "Roger Bellon- Jazz Compositions For Small Orchestra" and "Zero, Zero- A Children's Christmas Album".
Moving to Los Angeles in 1984 he continued his writing career, composing music for such television shows as "Falcon Crest" and "Cafe Americain" (for which he also composed the main theme) and was the composer for the hit British series "Yellow Thread Street". His television specials include "The Kid Who Wouldn't Quit", "The Brad Silverman Story" and an adaptation of "Frankenstein", for which he recieved an EMMY nomination.
Bellon has composed seven feature films, including "The Unholy", "Waxwork" (which has recieved three international awards), "Dark Horse", "Options", "Social Suicide" and "Princess Academy", and wrote an all-new score for the re-release of "The Sheik", Rudolph Valentino's 1921 silent classic.
In the documentary field, Bellon has scored, among others, "Doctors Without Borders" ("Medecin Sans Frontiere") which profiles an international team of physicians and their quest to aid war-torn and third world countries. He also provided music for director Rick Rosenthal's film "Tuesday's Child", documenting the Pediatric Aids Foundation.
In 1993 he was commissioned to compose the music for French choreographer Nadine Birtchansky's ballet "Signe Modigliani", which premiered at Cal Arts and enjoyed a twelve week run at the Odyssey Theatre in Los Angeles.
Bellon has contributed compositions to virtuoso flutist Jim Walker's "Private Flight" album, which was produced by Stanley Clarke, and he has just recently released the soundtrack to "Highlander- The Series" on his own Bellchant Records label.
In addition, Bellon has developed with partner author/composer Harlan Collins a family entertainment company presented on CD-ROM which among other things will incorporate many of Collins' more than a dozen musicals.
He is currently in his fifth year scoring "Highlander- The Series", which airs in 180 U.S. markets and seventy-six countries around the world.
Please watch for "Unforgivable", a two hour Movie Of The Week, which Bellon had recently completed the score for and aired on the CBS network in the US, in April of 1996.
