Peter Gordon -Flutist/Saxophonist

Biographical Notes

Flutist/ saxophonist Peter Gordon has had a wide and varied career since arriving in the United States in 1975. Having studied classical flute from the age of seven, he left his native Australia to study jazz at Boston's prestigious Berklee College of Music. He was soon invited to join the faculty as a member of their renowned woodwind department. He quickly established himself in the club scene in Boston, and, with the formation of his own band, honed his writing and performance skills.

Peter's love of contemporary music brought him to Los Angeles where his first solo album, THE LONG WAYHOME, earned favorable reviews in 1990. The L.A. years have seen live playing and recording experience with such diverse artists as Cheryl Bentyne of Manhattan Transfer, Ravi Shankar, Suzanne Ciani, Tom Jones, John Patitucci and Alex Acuna. Peter's second album, VMISPER AND WAIL, brought more success and led to tours throughout the U.S. and Europe. His third album, DOUBLEPLAY, which combined Peter's talents as composer, producer and performer, quickly became his most successful. A number of different tracks caught the attention of radio programmers throughout the U.S. and, as a result, the album became a top five hit on the national radio airplay charts.

Peter currently maintains a busy playing schedule, focused primarily on studio recording for film and television soundtracks. Apart from his work on Highlander, his woodwinds have been heard on such movies as "In The Line Of Fire", "What's Love Got To Do With It?", "The Rich Man's Wffe", "The Fhntstones", "Deadly Pursuits" and "Defenseless", and on the television series "Star Trek: The Next Generation", "Melrose Place". "Family Matters", "Who's The Boss?", "Riptide", "Lifestyles Of The Rich And Famous" (theme), "National Geographic", as well as numerous made-for-t.v. movies.

Peter says: "Working on Highlander has rapidly become a real highlight for me. I record my parts alone, as I watch the screen, in an overdubbing situation (rather than with an ensemble) I find that this gives us a lot of freedom to experiment. Typically on any given session, I will play flute, alto flute, bass flute and a variety of exotic flutes, along with alto, tenor and soprano saxophones. Roger always pushes me in such a way that I often come up with performances that are adventurous, colorful and very different from my experiences on other shows. I like the fact that his direction produces results in my playing that continue to surprise me. Add to this the fact that we find ourselves involved in different musical styles and time periods each week, and it's easy to see why this show is so much fun to work on!"
